Economics: goods, services, choices, and trade (grade 5)

Each colonial region earned a living from its land, and trade tied the regions to each other and to Britain. Here you will learn how land, trade, taxes, and money worked.

Three colonial regions

💡 Each region's land and weather decided what work people did there.

New England had rocky soil, thick forests, and a long coast. People fished and built ships.

The Middle Colonies grew lots of wheat and other grains. Bread is made from wheat, so they were called the breadbasket colonies.

The Southern Colonies were warm, with a long growing season. Big farms grew tobacco and rice to sell.

🧠 Let's work it out
  1. Match the land to the job.
