Economics: scarcity, goods and services, and money choices (grade 2)

There is never enough of everything, so we choose. Smart money choices put needs first and plan ahead.

Scarcity

💡 Scarcity means there is not enough for everyone, so people must choose.

Scarcity means there is not enough of something for all who want it. Ten kids and four swings is scarcity.

When water is scarce, people use less so it lasts.

A town with money for one thing must choose. If it fixes the road, the new park has to wait.

🧠 How to think about it

Ask: is there enough for all? If not, it is scarce. Then ask: what do we give up if we pick this?

scarcity
not having enough for everyone
scarce
hard to get, not enough
🏡 Try it at home

At snack time, put out fewer snacks than people. Talk about a fair way to choose who gets what.
