💡 A mayor leads a city, a governor a state, and the President the country.

A mayor leads a city or town. The mayor helps plan things like city parks.

A governor leads a state. Colorado has a governor.

The President leads the whole United States.

🧠 How to think about it

Match the leader to the place. A city is small, so it has a mayor. A country is big, so it has a President.

Look up the name of your mayor and your governor together.

Fire trucks, police, signs, and snow plows

💡 Government keeps us safe and does jobs that help us all.

Towns pay for firefighters and police to keep us safe.

City road workers plow snow off city streets.

Towns make rules to keep us safe, like slow speed limits near schools.

🧠 How to think about it

Ask: who takes care of this place? The city takes care of its streets. The President does not.

🏡 Try it at home

On a drive or walk, spot three things the government takes care of, like signs, roads, or parks.

Two friends talk it out

💡 We can disagree and still be kind, if we listen first.

People don't always agree. That is okay.

Respectful means you listen, then share your own idea. No yelling or name-calling.

"Best book" is an opinion. Both friends can have their own opinion.

Ask: is it a fact or a feeling? If it is a feeling, both can be right for themselves.

🏡 Try it at home

Pick a fun topic, like the best ice cream. Each person shares an opinion. Practice listening first.

A park clean-up

💡 Kids can make their community better by helping and telling grown-ups about problems.

If a park is full of trash, kids can hold a clean-up day.

If something is broken, like a swing, tell a grown-up in charge. Don't try to fix it alone.

Small acts help everyone who uses a place.

Pick one place to make better, like a room or your street. Make a plan and do one step.
