Life cycles and traits (grade 3)
Every living thing has a life cycle, and every living thing has traits. Some traits come from parents. Others come from where and how a living thing lives.
Life cycles
💡 All living things are born, grow, have young, and die, even though the stages look different.
A life cycle is the set of stages a living thing goes through. Then its young start the cycle again.
A butterfly goes egg, then caterpillar, then chrysalis, then adult. In the chrysalis it rests and changes. A frog goes egg, then tadpole, then adult frog. A tadpole has a tail and lives in water.
A bean plant goes seed, then seedling, then grown plant with flowers. The flowers make pods with new seeds.
The stages are not the same for every living thing. But all of them begin life, grow, have young, and die.
