Groups, adaptations, and fossils (grade 3)
Animals and plants need to survive where they live. Here you will see how groups, body traits, and fossils tell the story of life.
Living in groups
💡 Many animals live in groups because working together helps them find food and stay safe.
Some animals live alone. Many others live in groups.
A group can do things one animal can't. Wolves hunt as a pack to catch big animals. Bees share jobs in a hive.
Groups also help keep animals safe. Small fish swim close in a school. A hunter has a hard time picking just one.
🧠 How to think about it
Ask what is hard to do alone. One wolf can't catch an elk. A pack can. That is how the group helps.
