Solving problems by design (grades K–2)
Engineers solve problems by design. They ask, draw, build, test, and make it better.
Start with the problem
💡 The first step is to find out what the problem is.
Ask: what is wrong? What do we need?
If the slide gets too hot, the problem is heat. Then we can plan shade.
🧠 How to think about it
Do not build yet. First say the problem in one sentence. The slide gets too hot in the sun.
- engineer
- a person who designs things to solve problems
- design
- a plan for how to make something
🏡 Try it at home
Find a small problem at home, like a door that slams. Say the problem in one sentence.
