Solve one-step equations
An equation says two things are equal. Solving it means finding the number that makes it true, by undoing what was done to x.
Undo adding or subtracting
💡 Do the opposite operation to both sides: subtract to undo adding, add to undo subtracting.
An equation is like a balance. Whatever you do to one side, do to the other.
If a number is added to x, subtract it from both sides. If a number is subtracted from x, add it to both sides.
Check by putting your answer back in.
🧠 Let's work it out
Solve x − 6 = 15.
- 6 is subtracted, so add 6 to both sides.
✏️ What your answer looks like: Type just the number, 21.
