Volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres (Geometry)
Volume tells how much space a solid fills, like water in a tank or grain in a silo. Cylinders, cones, and spheres each have a formula built from the radius.
Cylinders: base times height
💡 A cylinder's volume is the circle area times the height: V = πr²h.
A cylinder is a stack of equal circles. The area of one circle is πr². Multiply by the height to stack them up.
If you know the volume and want the height, put the numbers into V = πr²h and divide.
Some questions want the answer as a number times π. Then type only the number in front of π.
A cylinder has radius 2 and height 7. Find its volume.
- Square the radius: r² = 4.
✏️ What your answer looks like: Type 28 if asked for the number times π, or 88.0 if asked to round to the nearest tenth.
- volume
- the amount of space a solid fills, in cubic units
- cylinder
- a solid with two equal circle ends, like a can
