Rhymes, syllables, and sounds in words (kindergarten)

Words are made of sounds. Here you hear rhymes, clap word parts, and find the sounds at the start, middle, and end.

Rhymes

💡 Words that rhyme sound the same at the end.

Cat and bat rhyme. They both end with at.

Cat and cap do not rhyme. They start the same, but end in a new way.

🧠 How to think about it

Say the word. Say it once more. Now say the end part. Does the next word end the same way?

rhyme
to sound the same at the end
🏡 Try it at home

Play rhyme time in the car. Say a word like goat. Take turns saying words that rhyme.
